Foundation repair
When a foundation crack keeps widening or doors start sticking, I find out whether water or settling is behind it, then fix the masonry and the cause together.
Mastercraft Antioch Masonry and Concrete is a masonry contractor based in Antioch that works in Concord, CA, repairing brick, chimneys and foundations and building retaining walls, block walls, paver driveways, walkways and outdoor kitchens.

Mastercraft Antioch Masonry and Concrete does brick, block, stone and concrete work across Concord. That runs from chimney and tuckpointing repairs on older houses to new retaining walls, paver driveways and outdoor kitchens. We're based in Antioch, and I come out to look at every Concord job myself before we put a number on it.
A lot of the Concord calls I get start with something cracking. It might be a front walk that has heaved, a garden wall leaning toward the sidewalk, mortar falling out of an old chimney or a block wall with a stair-step crack running through it. The fix depends on why it happened, so I look at the footing, the soil and where the water goes before I tell you what it needs.
New projects come up just as often. People want a retaining wall to level a sloped backyard, pavers to replace a tired concrete driveway, or a grill island and a stone wall around the patio. We plan those around how your lot is laid out and how you'll use the space, so the finished work fits the house instead of looking dropped in.
As a masonry contractor in Antioch, CA, we see Concord as the west side of the area we cover. We do the same work out east in Oakley and across the cities in between, with the same crew and the same way of working wherever the job is.

Loose bricks, a cracked cap or mortar washing out near the roofline are the usual signs on an older chimney, and we rebuild what's failing instead of patching over it.
If the mortar between your bricks is crumbling or sitting back from the face, we grind it out and pack in fresh mortar to keep water out of the wall.
Cracked, flaking or loose bricks on a front step, planter or house wall get cut out and replaced with brick that matches as closely as we can find.
Pavers make sense where a poured driveway has cracked and heaved, because we dig out, pack a solid base and set pavers that can be lifted and reset later.
A retaining wall on a sloped yard needs gravel and a drain behind it so water doesn't push it over, and that's how we build them.
For older brick and stone that's worn, stained or badly patched over the years, we repair what's there and match the mortar so the work blends in.
Adding a fireplace inside or on the patio means planning the firebox, chimney and clearances before the first brick goes down, and I walk you through those choices.
Stone veneer gives a plain block wall, foundation skirt or fireplace front the look of real stone, and we set it over proper backing so moisture can get out.
Block walls make solid property lines and garden walls, and we set them on a real footing with steel and grout where the wall calls for it.
When an addition, garage or crawlspace needs a block foundation wall, we lay it on a sound footing so the framing above it sits level.
Grill islands and backyard kitchens in block, brick or stone, with the base and counter support planned around your grill and how you actually cook outside.
A front walk or side path that's cracked, sunken or tripping people gets torn out and rebuilt on a packed base in brick, pavers, stone or concrete.
New brick garden walls, mailbox columns and low front walls, laid on a footing and capped so water runs off the top instead of soaking in.
Natural stone steps, walls and borders suit yards that slope or need a sturdy edge, and we fit each stone so the wall carries its own weight.
Small patches of cracked or missing mortar, around a step or a few rows of a wall, can be pointed now before they turn into a bigger repair.
Send the form and we'll get back to you within one business day, and most of the time it's me who calls. I'll set a time to come out to your Concord property, look at the job myself and give you a written estimate that spells out what we'll do and what we won't. It's free, and there's no obligation to book.
(925) 503-1025In Concord, permits go through the city's Permit Center, where you can look up zoning, see which permits a project needs and estimate the fees. If a job moves soil or reaches into the public strip along the street, the city also wants separate grading or encroachment permits from its Engineering Division, so a retaining wall or a driveway apron can take longer to start than a mortar repair.
Before you hire anyone, check two things: a state contractor license and a Concord business license. I explain both in the questions below. When your job needs a permit, we pull it with the city and line up the inspections, and if it isn't clear whether yours does, I check with the Permit Center before any work starts.
The price of a Concord job mostly turns on its size, how much digging and drainage it needs, how much old brick or concrete has to come out, the material you pick and how easy it is to get equipment in. Your written estimate gives you the figure for your job. We work the same way in nearby Clayton and Pleasant Hill.
I come out to look at every job myself, and I'm on site with our crew when the work gets done. That way the person who told you what your wall needs is the one making sure it gets built that way. I learned this trade as a helper mixing mortar and hauling block, and I opened the business in Antioch in 2023.
I'd rather fix why something failed than cover it up. If a step cracked because the base under it washed out, we fix the base, not just the step. And if your job turns out smaller than you expected, like repointing a few joints instead of rebuilding a whole wall, I'll tell you that.
We're licensed and insured, and the written estimate tells you what's included before you agree to anything. Satisfaction guaranteed on every job. If you've got a crack, a lean or a project you're planning in Concord, call (925) 503-1025 or fill out our contact form and tell me what you're seeing.
A few things about Concord change how we plan masonry here, from the state's hazard maps to the city's own building rules and the way older homes and sloped yards were built.
The city has posted the state's updated Fire Hazard Severity Zone maps for Contra Costa County, released in 2025. They rate the wildfire hazard for each area. If you're planning a fireplace, an outdoor kitchen or a wall near open ground, look up where your lot falls before we design, because it's easier to plan around that early than to change a drawing later.
Concord builds to the California building code and adds rules of its own in the city's municipal code. That's why I don't plan a footing or a tall wall here from memory of how another city does it. We check what Concord expects for your kind of job before the estimate turns into a plan, so there are no surprises at inspection.
On older Concord houses, the original mortar is often softer than what's sold for new work. Packing hard modern mortar into old brick can make the brick crack or flake instead of the joint. So when we repoint or repair an older chimney or wall, we match the mortar to the brick rather than grab whatever's on the truck.
Where a yard steps up toward the hills, a wall is holding back soil and the water in it. Most leaning or cracked retaining walls I look at failed because water built up behind them with nowhere to go. Behind the walls we build, we put gravel, a drain pipe and weep holes, small gaps that let water out through the face.
There's no single price, because repointing a chimney and building a retaining wall are very different jobs, so you get your number in a free written estimate after I've seen the work. Choosing block over natural stone, or repairing instead of rebuilding, can bring the cost down a lot, and I'll tell you when that's an option.
Usually both. The Contractors State License Board requires a state license when a job needs a building permit, uses any extra workers, or when labor and materials on the project come to $1,000 or more. Concord also requires a city business license for licensed contractors working in the city, even when their office is in another city.
Type your address into EQ Zapp, the California Geological Survey's statewide map tool, and it shows whether your property sits in any of its mapped earthquake hazard zones. It's worth a look before a foundation repair or a new block or retaining wall, and you're welcome to bring what you find to the estimate.
Clear a path to the wall, chimney or area you want looked at, and think back to when you first noticed the crack or lean and whether it's grown since. Photos of a look you like help too. I'll walk the job with you, check drainage and access, and write up what it needs.
A small repair usually moves fastest, while a job that needs permits and inspections waits on the city, so the paperwork often sets the timeline more than the work itself. Mortar and concrete also need time to set before we load or finish them. I'll tell you what to expect for your job at the estimate.
We pick up seven days a week, from 8 AM on weekdays and 7 AM on weekends until 11 PM, so you can call (925) 503-1025 or use the form after work and ask which permits your project might need.
